Seymour into its first-ever under-17 netball grand final - and first of any kind for 13 years.By Chalpat Sonti
Seymour is through to its first Goulburn Valley Netball League grand final in 13 years after a brave 48-45 win by the under-17 side against Kyabram on Sunday.
The Lions rode the waves in the second semi-final at Benalla that changed momentum time and again to finally seal victory when defender Chene Clydesdale got her hands on the ball in the circle with the Bombers down by one and charging home.
The ball ended up down the other end pretty quickly and Alice O’Sullivan, as she did all the day, goaled to put the jubilant Lions through to the decider.
There the Lions will play either Kyabram or Shepparton Swans, upset victors over Shepparton United on Saturday.
It is the first GV grand final for Seymour’s netballers since the B-grade and B-reserve sides were unsuccessful in the 2000 deciders.
Seymour seemed to have the better of the opening quarter in Sunday’s game, but too many turnovers from forced passes saw the Bombers take a 12-10 lead into the first break.
It was a similar story in the second term, with the scores locked at 25-all.
