It was a mirror image of the first time they met, down to the result, and now Avenel has qualified for the KDNL under-15 final.
The Swans won a thriller against Nagambie 36-34 at home on Saturday to advance to the decider at Tatura on September 21.
It was a relieved Swans coach Helen Dawson — the Avenel netball stalwart has coached the side for the past three seasons, but it has been knocked out at the preliminary final stage in the past two years.
The Swans held an eight-goal lead at one stage in the last quarter, before a rattling Lakers comeback saw the margin whittled to just one, before Avenel steadied.
Avenel’s Carissa Grant was named most valuable player for the game.
It was an uncanny reversal of the round-robin clash between the sides at Nagambie, where the Lakers got out to a good lead and held off a late charge from the Swans.
Nagambie have another chance to make the grand final, facing Violet Town at Girgarre on Saturday, after the Towners upset Lancaster.
