Explosion at Pyalong, concerns over speeding motorists and window smashing spree.
Explosion at school
Police attended an incident at a Pyalong School about 8.30
The 50-year-old woman was taken by road ambulance to the Northern Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An Arson Squad chemist attended the scene, and the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined. Police will be investigating along with WorkSafe and Energy Safe.
There were no students at the school at the time.
Facing multiple charges
Local police arrested a Nunawading man driving a B-double truck along Hume Fwy near Avenel in the early hours of Saturday after receiving a report he had allegedly threatened another man with a firearm near Violet Town.
A search of the truck revealed a rifle as well some electrical items believed to have been stolen interstate, and some white powder believed to be amphetamine.
The 51-year-old man is expected to be charged on summons with numerous charges, including assault and handling stolen property, plus firearm and drug offences.
The 22-year-old male victim was not injured.
Windows smashed
Police are seeking information after windows were smashed at several businesses in Tallarook St overnight on January 24. It is believed the damage was caused by rocks being thrown from the railway line.
A car also had a panel damaged after an object was thrown at it as it drove along Anzac Ave about 4.55
Anyone who has information is urged to phone police on 5735
Police are investigating as to whether there is a connection between the two incidents.
Drivers flout speed laws
Seymour Traffic Police are concerned that motorists do not seem to be heeding the traffic warnings as drivers are still being caught travelling at high speeds.
In the most recent incident, a red P-plate driver was intercepted on Northern Hwy at Pyalong on Australia Day doing 140
He had held his licence for less that than 12 months and has now received a $458 fine, lost six demerit points and lost his driver’s licence for six months.
A 20-year-old visitor from Sweden had his Range Rover sports four-wheel drive seized after he was caught driving at 165
Not only is he facing court charges, but is liable for more than $1000 in costs for the towing and storage of the car for 30 days.
Youth cautioned
A 17-year-old Craigieburn youth received a caution for being in possession of explosives after reports were received of firecrackers being let off in the car park of Seymour’s McDonald’s restaurant on January 17 about 11.30
Police spoke with the youth and another male who were in a parked car, and a search of the vehicle revealed two more firecrackers.
Number plate stolen
A number plate was stolen from a boat trailer which was left parked near the Goulburn Park boat ramp during Saturday afternoon.
Extra care required
The start of a new school year is upon us, and traffic police would like to remind motorists that speed restrictions around school zones will be applicable.
Our young children are the most vulnerable road users, so motorists must take special care around these zones.
Extra patrols will be conducted around the schools during these times.
