Seymour Labour Day bush market hits the mark again

So who did win the duck race - and what were the best-named ducks?

By Chalpat Sonti

The hot weather didn’t let up but the crowds didn’t stay away from the annual Labour Day bush market at Goulburn Park on Monday.

Plenty of people took advantage of a relatively-cooler morning to get down to the market where there was plenty to do.

However, many did stay around until 1pm when the showpiece event, the 21st running of the Great Duck Race, took place.

The sight that made Thomas Kilmartin very happy - his entrant Thomas Duck has got through the finish line of the 21st Great Duck Race first to win his buyer $1000.

And the 500 ducks again presented a great sight, though no one would have been happier than Thomas Kilmartin, whose Thomas Duck (number 93) took first prize of $1000.

Margaret ‘‘Bop’’ Sheppard was runner-up ($200) with the aptly-named So Ducking Hot (number 500), while Bruce Hall’s Showcase Duck (83) was third, netting him $100.

There was just as much interest of course in the best-named ducks.

The prizes went to Heather Hockley (Pope Beneduck), Megan Rose (Quackyard Blitz), Millie Shannon (Speedy Duckzalus) and Greg Steele (From Duckskill Dawn).

The official list of prize winners will be published in the classified section of next week’s Telegraph.

Diane Wales reported a good trade for her orchids.

It might not have been Normie Rowe but there was still plenty to keep the dancing going at the bush market.
