SAFE bet as expo brings in the dollars for locals

They came in close to record numbers for the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, and apart from buying they left a lot of local organisations pretty happy.

They came in close to record numbers, they saw, and apart from buying they left a lot of local organisations pretty happy.

That was the wash-up from Seymour Alternative Farming Expo at the weekend.

The three-day event has regularly averaged crowds of between 40000 and 45000 in its past 20 runnings, and organisers say that was likely to have been the case again this year.

While Friday and Sunday crowds were similar to recent years, a great day weather-wise on Saturday saw probably a record crowd.

Organisers won’t know for sure until all the tickets are counted, with a little guesswork required due to the number of family passes sold.

But other local clubs and organisations reported booming trade at the weekend, with some records broken.

These pictures were taken on the Saturday and the queues ensured there was hardly a dull moment.

For many organisations the expo is a major contributor to finances, and for some it is the biggest one.

Seymour Football Netball Club has been involved with the expo throughout the 21 years.

Committee member Trevor Gunn said it was important to acknowledge all the people that made it happen each and every year, including the committee, players (especially netballers) and friends of the club.

‘‘The club would like to publicly acknowledge the contribution of Colin and Bev Stray and all the team at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo for allowing the club to be a part of the event annually,’’ he said.

The crowds came in their thousands to the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo at the weekend.

The Mitchell sub-branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association was busy selling rafle tickets in its major fundraiser for the year.

Eastern Hill Cricket Club was busy at stands at both the western and eastern ends of Kings Park, which met with the approval of president Trevor Chapman.

There were plenty lining up to get a taste of Avenel Primary School's gourmet barbecue.

And now for something completely different... this Lego version of the Love Boat proved extremely popular.

Marcus Ure and Lyndel O'Sullivan were kept busy on the Seymour Football Netball Club's fast food stand at the expo.
