Seymour Relay for Life gearing up again.By Carol Smith
Michael Grayling is known as ‘‘Mr Relay’’ because he has participated in 358 Relay For Life events since his first one in 1999 when they started in Australia.
He spoke at a team information meeting recently held in preparation for Seymour’s Relay next month.
Mr Grayling was diagnosed with testicular cancer at age 23 and given six weeks to live. He took part in ultra marathons and said his life changed when he ran his first Relay and felt the tremendous support of other cancer survivors and carers at the event.
Now he visits Relays every year and runs laps in each of them to encourage others to fight back against the disease.
As a 34-year survivor of the disease, Mr Grayling will bring his Fightback van to the Seymour event at Kings Park on September 21-22 to help spread the message of hope for a cancer-free future.
Mr Grayling is passionate about Relay For Life and urged the local community to support the event.
‘‘Every Relay is a place where friends and family come together to share our cancer journey,’’ he said.
