Ballot draws held for local electorates ahead of September 7 poll.By Chalpat Sonti
You might not know it, given the lack of candidates travelling to our area — let alone party leaders — but the Federal election is fast approaching.
The fields to contest the two electorates in our area were finalised last week.
Nine candidates will face the starter in McEwen. The ballot draw was held at the Australian Electoral Commission office in Seymour on Friday, and almost true to form so far, just four candidates were there in person.
The ballot order is: Barry Newton (Family First), Trevor Dance (Palmer United), Ferdie Verdan (Rise Up Australia), Ian Cranson (Country Alliance), Bruce Stevens (Katter’s Australian Party), Victoria Nash (Australian Sex Party), Donna Petrovich (Liberals), Rob Mitchell (Labor) and Neil Barker (Greens).
In Murray, 11 candidates nominated to contest the September 7 poll. They are (in ballot order): Tristram Chellew (Sex Party), Sharman Stone (Liberal), Michael Burke (Katter’s Australian Party), Wendy Buck (Independent), Damien Stevens (Greens), Catriona Thoolen (Palmer United Party), Fern Summer (Bullet Train For Australia), Raymond Hungerford (Rise Up Australia), Alan Walker (Family First), Rod Higgins (Labor), Jeff Davy (Citizens Electoral Council).
It will take place at the Uniting Church hall, Crawford St, from 7
It is your chance to meet, hear and question the candidates, who, by and large, have so far been absent in the flesh from the northern part of the electorate.
Refreshments will be served afterwards.
While votes can be cast at Australian Electoral Commission offices, the easiest place to do so is at an early voting centre.
These are listed below.

Puckapunyal Primary School (note this is meant for Defence personnel only) from 8
