Lakers' valiant effort just falls short

Nagambie unable to hold on against charging Stanhope in A-grade netball.

So near yet so far — that tells the tale for Nagambie’s A-grade netball side after it came agonisingly close to pulling off an upset at Stanhope on Saturday.

The injury-hit Lakers matched it goal-for-goal in blustery conditions with one of the competition favourites, the first quarter featuring more turnovers from both sides than goals.

Then Nagambie pinched a late four-goal break to end the third quarter 35-31 ahead.

But Stanhope showed its class in fighting back in the final term to sneak a 48-44 victory.

That was despite some valiant efforts by Nagambie players.
