King of water triumphs again at Nagambie on Water

Plenty of action and fun at the annual festival.

By Chalpat Sonti

Barry Goddard has again proved himself to be like a fine wine — getting better with age.

The Goulburn Weir 75-year-old proved himself king of the water — or at least the section between the boat ramp and the overbridge to the rowing club at Buckley Park — when he repeated last year’s triumph in the Walk on Water event at the Nagambie on Water festival on Saturday.

Not only that, he smashed his own record and was the only competitor to actually complete the course, though many made valiant attempts.

Walk on Water was one of many highlights of the day, which in complete contrast to last year was held in beautiful conditions.

Hundreds of festival goers were treated to water and land-based activities, good food and wine, plenty of music and much more.

The 1.1km Park to Pub swim got things underway with the following results:

Junior female: Marnie Fothergill (first), Toni Debono (second), Grace Sutton (third).

Junior male: Max Warwick, Toby Fuhrmeister, Blake Fothergill.

Senior female: Isabelle Robinson, Amelia Elliott, Claire Sands.

Senior male: Jason Forbes, Ryan Smith.

Masters female: Rachel Nevison, Carol McGregor, Laura Smithers-Shaw.

Masters male: Stuart Shaw, Steven Orr, John Hurley.

Brodie, 7, and Monique Purchase, 8, and Andrew Peart, 8, enjoy the rides at the Nagambie on Water festival.
