One of the highlights for 2013 is sure to be the opening of the redeveloped Karingal aged care facility.

The Telegraph recently took a tour of the 60-bed development, which is coming along nicely ahead of a scheduled opening in early June.

There will be 30 low-care, 15 high-care and 15 dementia beds in the facility.

The dementia area will be fully secure and is designed so residents can walk around it without coming to a stop due to a wall, which can disorientate them. Outside areas for dementia sufferers will have soft ground.

Builders are expected to finish the $8.8million development in May, with a public open day planned before residents move in.
