Golfers scored plenty of great scores in one of the final rounds before the Christmas break.December 19, 2013 4:51am
Wednesday was a stableford round for the men and a par round for the ladies. In the men’s competition the best score was in B grade with John Davey (21) winning with 40 points. The A grade winner was Graham Kiper (14) with 39 points. Nearest the pins went to Kevin Mulvaney on the 4th, John Davey on the 6th and Mark Fountain on the 17th. For a ball, 34 points was needed on a count back.
In the ladies competition, A grade was won by Shirley Wright (15) with a great score of plus 3. B grade was won by Sue McCall (18) with a square score. The extra competition was the best nine out score which went to Emily Pell with plus 4. The balls went to Shirley Wright, Emily Pell, Dale Stuart and Pat Ferris on a count back. The nine-hole competition was won by Ann Stanbrook (42) with 19 points.
Saturday was an ambrose event with the best scratch score of 66 going to the team of Graham Welsh, Danny Fleming and Steve Hogan. The men’s handicap winners were the team of Phil Jarvis, Vic Bottaro, Frank Fillipi and Alan Coulson with a net score of 60.1. The mixed team winners were Gerard Hard, Mick ODonnell and Sharon Cresswell with a net score of 63.3. Nearest the pin on the 4th was Connie Grace, the 6th went to Paul Niebling, Phil Jarvis was the closest on the 12th and Mick ODonnell won the 17th.
Next Saturday, which is the last competition before Christmas, is a par round for both men and women.
Wednesday, December 11 saw 13 ladies out playing a stroke round for the Monthly Medal. The winner of the December Medal as well as A Grade was Deirdre Kleinig with 96-21-75
The winner of B and C Grade was Jeanette Richardson with 115-36-79
The ladies are in recess until January 8, but we need members to sell tickets for the pub raffle on December 20, 21. Many thanks to members watering the fairways and to Dad’s Army for the condition of the course, and to god above for the rain.
The chicken run on Thursday, December 12 attracted 20 players, with the winner being David Love with 22 points. Shaun Bryant won nearest the pin on the 16th. Next week is a Par round on the front nine. The next Ambrose event will be the fundraiser for the Shaun Baker appeal on Friday, January 31. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
