Plenty to do beyond the pitch
It may not have the major event of the weekend — the Water to Wickets Twenty20 cricket match — but there is still plenty happening in Rochester on Saturday.
Players from the Australian Cricketers’ Association will begin the afternoon by visiting Rochester and Elmore District Health Services from 2pm to 4pm where Rochester residents will hold a presentation regarding the floods and the impact they had on the region.
From there, all the big names including Terry Alderman, Jimmy Maher and Greg Matthews will tour the hospital and hostel to meet with staff and patients.
The cricket stars will then jump on a bus for a trip around town, when they will be shown just how high floodwaters reached, what damage was caused and what effect it had on the community.
The cricketers will then venture down to Rochester Recreation Reserve to check out the tail end of two Campaspe Cricket Association matches — Rochester United v Echuca South and Rochester Tigers v Bunnaloo.
On Saturday evening, they will be off to another major function, ‘Celebrating Water to Wickets’.
Hosted by former district resident and Channel 10 personality Brad McEwan, the evening will include a five piece band, Entourage, and a silent auction in a sportsmans-type event.
A meal will be provided and drinks available, with the cost $30 a person but limited to 300 tickets. The event will start at 7pm at CVCC Rochester.
