Oscar chance for former resident
Former Rochester man Grant Hill was nominated for an Oscar last week for his film 'Tree of Life'.
By Natalie DurrantGrant has been living in the US for more than 20 years and has produced and co-produced many Oscar winning and nominated movies.
The most famous movie he co-produced was Titanic in 1997 and he has been executive producer for The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, as well as other well-known titles.
Tree of Life is the second movie he and his friend Terrence Malick (director) worked on together.
Grant’s family in Rochester are excited about the nomination.
His sister, Karen Galliker, said Grant worked extremely hard and was a quiet achiever who was a humble and modest man.
She said the nomination was a surprise for everyone as Grant had planned to come home at the end of February, but would have to postpone it due to his Oscar nomination.
‘‘I think it shows if you really want something you can achieve it,’’ she said.
She spoke about her brother’s career path going from one course of study, to selling antiques, then following his dream to work on movies.
‘‘He is very passionate about his work,’’ she said.
‘‘He is just an ordinary country boy following his dream,’’ she said.
