Fire crews attend a paddock fire in Diggora on Thursday.

A paddock fire at Diggora caused by a lightning strike on Thursday flared up again on Friday night.

Ten district CFA tankers attended the fire, which started about 8pm on the corner of Dingee and Brick Church roads and took crews about half-an-hour to control.

Elmore brigade captain Colin Walker said the fire ignited a lot of trees, destroying about 25 hectares.

Mr Walker said the fire jumped Brick Church Rd and into a neighbouring property’s canola stubble, which crews contained.

‘‘The winds were extremely strong, so it certainly took off,’’ he said.

‘‘The fire was burning to the north this time; the opposite direction to Thursday’s fire.

‘‘We couldn’t get the helicopter as they knock off at 7pm, so we had to do it ourselves.’’

Two Rochester crews stayed at the scene overnight to make sure the fire did not reignite, while an excavator was used to get rid of some dead trees.

Rochester CFA First Lieutenant Luke Warren said a thermal imaging camera from Bendigo was used on Saturday morning to locate any remaining embers.

‘‘We located a few hot spots and put them out,’’ Mr Warren said.

Property owner Colin Holmberg said the fires did not destroy any crops, but had put him slightly on edge.

‘‘I checked the paddock a few times yesterday. I was in and out like a yo-yo,’’ Mr Holmberg said yesterday.

‘‘It looks like they’re out and under control now.’’
