Battle of the Rochester tennis sides
In section one of the Campaspe Tennis Association, Rochy 2 (9/85) was too strong for Rochy 1 (4/65).
Todd Woodfine and Elliott Taylor lost to the Gledhill brothers, Connor and James, in a thrilling display of tennis.
Chris Murray was roped in to play with Trav Lee against Shane Bywaters and Greg Tiller, but went down 2-8.
Taylor and Murray secured four games against James Gledhill and Tiller.
In the men’s singles, Woodfine had something to prove, with a 3-0 start against young gun Connor Gledhill.
In a physical and mental set, Woodfine won 7-5, while Lee put two games on the board against workmate Bywaters.
In the first women’s match, Kate Lee and Karen Taylor fought hard against the consistent pair of Lois Toohy and Michelle Winchcombe, going down 3-8.
Sisters Karen Bartlett and Louise Williams played with cat-like movements to win 8-3 against Leanne Gledhill and Rachael Major.
Lee and Bartlett gave up an early lead before winning in a tie-break in a fantastic set against Winchcomb and Gledhill.
Taylor and Leisa Evans took five games from Lois Toohey and Rachael Major.
Down 20 games and a man going into the mixed matches, Lee swapping the skirt for pants to pair up with Taylor against Bywaters and Toohey, but they were too stong, 4-8.
Woodfine and Evans had an amazing set against James Gledhill and Winchcomb, 6-8.
Trav Lee and Louise Williams were just beaten in some great passages of play against Connor and Leanne Gledhill, 6-8.
Taylor and Bartlett played some perfect tennis to win 8-0 against Tiller and Major.
