One job that will not change will be Mr Baker’s; he still plans to be the ‘‘go-to man’’ for all Rochester information
‘‘When anyone wants to know anything, I’m still here,’’ Mr Baker said.
‘‘Five years ago, I’d have thought we would be running the newsagency forever,’’ Mrs Baker said.
The idea to become involved with wine came up a few times, but it was not until they left the newsagency in July and took some time out that they realised what they wanted to do.
‘‘We tried to merge our passion for wine and talking to people,’’ Mr Baker said.
Mrs Baker said the couple now had the freedom to take holidays — a luxury they could not afford at the newsagents where they worked seven-days-a-week.
Mrs Baker said while they considered moving away to set up a new business, she did not like the idea of leaving her friends and family behind in Rochester, so considered Bernie’s Wine tavern to be the ideal business.
