Bad day for Rochester bowlers

It was another bad day for Rochester with only division one winning its match, winning by two shots over bottom-placed Ky Valley View.

Division two lost all rinks against a rampant Lockington, throwing away its fourth position on the ladder, and making it virtually impossible to play in the finals.

Division three lost all rinks to Tongala, going down by 47 shots, while division four were trounced by Rich River White by 64 shots.

Division one played at home and Kevin Brennan’s team was the only winning rink on the day, starting off like a team of champions, up 17 to four at end 11.

The side continued its dominance to record a 13-shot victory.

Les Walles’ team struck trouble on end 10, dropping seven shots and was unable to recover, going down by six shots.

Don Gillies’ team was one shot up at the break, but lost eight of the last 12 ends to go down by three shots.

Terry Sharkey’s team had a close battle all day, leading by three shots at end 19, only to score three shots to eight over the closing ends, to go down by two shots.

This is the first time in 15 years a Rochester division one team has not made the finals.

Divisions two played at Lockington and lost all four rinks, recording a 44-shot loss, which means the side will not play finals.

Division three played at home against Tongala and was handed a major 47-shot defeat, while division four played at Rich River White and suffered a humiliating 64-shot loss.

The Campaspe Classic fours event was on Sunday and only one four-game winner emerged to take the major prize.

The winning team from Bendigo East deserved its win, playing consistent bowls all day to outlast Luke Spargo’s team, which scored three wins and a tie to take second.

Thanks to Bob Bartlett for his help with the raffle prizes and Bob Knight and Bruce Major for running the event.

Sheets are in the foyer for the Jack Baker drawn fours on March 15 and the handicap triples on March 29.

The event starts at 6.30pm. A sausage sizzle is on from 5.45pm.

The popular Murray Goulburn day is on March 22 from 10.30am.

Premier pairs list is in the foyer and will be played on April 28 and 29.

Unavailable night pennant players need to ring the clubhouse on 54841105 by 7pm.

The women’s pennant played on Friday saw two of the Rochester teams win.

The division one played at Moama and scored a significant win by 51 shots, winning all three rinks to score maximum points.

Marg Knight lead her team with a 20-shot win, Marg Ferris’s team won by 15 shots and Lyn Moon’s team won by 16 shots.

Division two travelled to Echuca and only won one rink, going down by 12 shots, while division three played at home against Lockington and won both rinks and scored maximum points.
