Tongala communicates road and reserves concern

The condition of roads and recreation reserves were some of the issues Tongala residents raised at Campaspe Shire Council’s recent communication session in the town.

The condition of roads and recreation reserves were some of the issues Tongala residents raised at Campaspe Shire Council’s recent communication session in the town.

Campaspe Communicating meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month.

They aim to provide the community with a chance to get an update or seek clarification on an issue, as well as have a general discussion about local and shire-wide issues with councillors and senior officers.

Deputy Mayor Marion Riley said 15 people attended.

‘‘Many questions were raised and discussed about specific projects relating to Tongala, including road access, recreation reserves and management of roadsides,’’ Cr Riley said.

‘‘There are a number of significant community consultation periods about to commence and we are seeking diverse community input to help develop council positions on important issues.’’

The council provided an update specific to the drainage policy development, the shed amnesty and budget development for 2012-13.

As the Murray-Darling Basin Plan will have significant impacts for the wider community, the council informed those present of the upcoming community consultation sessions.

Next month’s Campaspe Communicating will be in Rushworth at 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 6.
