New Tongala Cricket Club Coach James Stokes said he will not let his players practice in the dangerous cricket nets.

New Tongala Cricket Club coach James Stokes said he refuses to allow his players to train in the club’s cricket nets for safety reasons.

Mr Stokes said the condition of the nets has deteriorated to the point he believes players could harm themselves or others using them.

Campaspe Shire council allocated $103000 in its 2014/2015 budget as part of a facilities upgrade that will include demolishing the existing nets and installing new ones.

However, a timeframe for the work has yet to be finalised.

‘‘We are currently working through the scheduling of all 90-plus projects in this year’s capital works program including the timing of three projects in Tongala,’’ Campaspe Shire said.
