Tongala PS students entertain the Soundshell Park crowd on Saturday evening.

The Tongala community was in good spirits on Saturday evening for the town’s annual Carols by Candlelight concert.

A crowd of about 350 people, many wearing Christmas hats and outfits, gathered in Soundshell Park to enjoy a free barbecue prepared by Tongala Lions Club members.

Entertainment was provided by students from Tongala and St Patrick’s primary schools, members of Tongala Christian Fellowship and cartoonist Brett Caldwell.

Songs performed on the night included It’s the most wonderful time of the year, Do you hear what I hear? and We wish you a Merry Christmas.

For most of the evening there was a queue of children keen to get their faces painted and towards the end, Santa paid the town a visit.
