Storm hits Stanhope

Stanhope was hit by a storm which passed through Northern Victoria late Thursday afternoon.

Stanhope was one of the Northern Victoria towns to be hit by severe weather conditions late yesterday afternoon.

A mini-tornado ripped through the northern edge of the town about 5pm uprooting and smashing down several large trees.

Gordon Emmett’s farm was one of the properties hit, with two large gum trees, believed to be more than 200 years old, being uprooted.

Virtually every tree on Mr Emmett’s farm had branches blown off and several fences were taken down by falling debris.

He also had to delay milking his herd of jersey cows as they would not set foot in the milking shed during the storm.

In the centre of Stanhope a heavy burst of hail left business owners clearing away hail stones from the doorways of their shops.

More in next Wednesday’s print edition of the Kyabram Free Press.

Gordon and Craig Emmett survey the damage caused by a storm which passed through Stanhope late Thursday afternoon.
