Kyabram’s annual Pancake dinner next Tuesday will this year focus its fundraising towards disadvantaged youths.

The yearly event, put on by The Uniting Church, chooses a different support group to support each year, with this year’s funding recipients to be disadvantaged young people in Victoria and Tasmania.

‘‘We hope to support children and youth, from infants to teenagers, with the money raised going towards programs that offer support to disadvantaged children, youth development and family support,’’ Uniting Care director Charles Gibson said.

The 2011 event raised about $70000, with the Kyabram dinner raising $600 .

‘‘It’s a brilliant cause and the money raised helps the many young people in our community who need our support,’’ Kyabram event organiser Margaret Newton said.

The funds raised will go to a variety of initiatives, including providing meals, accommodation and counselling for youths in need.

The event sees volunteers across Victoria and South Australia flip pancakes to raise money for important causes, with the Melbourne event this year featuring celebrity chef Adriano Zumbo.

‘‘This will be my first year putting it on, so hopefully it can be as much a success as it was last year,’’ Mrs Newton said.

The pancake dinner will be held at the Kyabram Uniting Church, beginning at 6.30pm next Tuesday, February 21.
