All-ability access is set to improve in Kyabram in coming months.

Campaspe Shire Council announced it would upgrade access to the Kyabram Senior Citizens’ Centre and the public toilets at the Kyabram Transit Centre.

Councillor Neil Repacholi said both projects were identified during building audits, which were undertaken across all council buildings.

‘‘Both facilities were identified as not providing equitable access for the users,’’ Cr Repacholi said.

Council’s Access and Inclusion Plan also identified the need to provide equal access to council’s community infrastructure and services.

‘‘An annual allocation is then made in each year’s budget to achieve this objective with projects identified prioritised,’’ he said.

A ramp will be constructed at the senior citizens’ centre at a cost of $14200, while works totalling $49350 will be completed at the transit centre, including an upgrade to the existing toilets, construction of an accessible unisex toilet, regrading of the concrete entry and installation of hand rails.

Bus and taxi services to the transit centre will not be affected by the works.

The projects were expected to begin yesterday and are expected to take about eight weeks to complete.
