Shire of Campaspe ratepayers should recive their rate notices in the mail this week.
The mail out of rate notices from the Shire of Campaspe Council has started, with most residents expected to receive their notices this week.
Rate notices for the 2013-14 financial year will include the new Fire Services Property Levy, which council is required to collect on behalf of the Victorian Government.
The levy – which funds the Country Fire Authority in country areas and the Metropolitan Fire Bridge in Melbourne – was previously collected via insurance premiums, but the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission found this was unfair and needed reform.
Mayor Ian Maddison said the amount of rates paid depends on a property’s value, based on a January 2012 valuation, and its rating category.
Ratepayers will also see an increase in the garbage ($17.50) and recycling ($2.90) charges per rateable property on their notices.
There is also an optional $46.50 green waste charge in Echuca, Rochester and Kyabram.
Cr Maddison urged any ratepayer facing genuine financial hardship in paying their rates to contact Council as soon as possible to discuss their individual circumstances.
