Book Week costumes were on show at schools throughout the district last week as children dressed up as their favourite characters.
Schools across the district celebrated Book Week last week with reading related events and eye-catching book character parades.
Students, and in some cases teachers as well, dressed up in a wide array of colourful and imaginative costumes representing their favourite characters from a wide range of books.
The theme of this year’s event was ‘Read across the universe’ and students and teachers from all parts of Australia were invited to vote for their favourite book in categories covering mature readers, independent young readers, pre-reading to early reading stages, and picture books.
Judges from the Australian Children’s Book Council then announced this year’s winners.
A full list of the winning books and other recommended entries can be found at www.cbca.org.au
