Phone scam warning
Heathcote police are warning residents of a phone scam asking for bank details.
Heathcote police are urging residents to be on the alert after a man was targeted in a telephone scam on Thursday.
Senior Constable Jeff Arandt said the Heathcote man was asked to make a payment via money order to cover the cost of returning excess charges taken from his bank account.
Fortunately the man realised the request was not legitimate before payment was made.
Sen. Constable Arandt said banks and the Federal Government would not ask for unsolicited personal details over the phone.
‘‘It’s always by letter,’’ he said.
He said if something appeared too good to be true, it probably was.
