Pair keen to help sick kids
Sometimes it pays to get in early and this year the Union Hotel's Travis Edwards and Carl ‘Kiwi’ Propsting are giving Heathcote plenty of notice.
The pub is gearing up for its annual Good Friday Appeal and the dynamic duo is calling on Heathcote’s citizens to dig into their cupboards, drawers and garages and donate their unwanted items to the hotel’s Good Friday Appeal to help raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
‘‘We’ll take just about anything as long as it’s in decent condition,’’ Carl said.
‘‘We can’t sell things that are broken or don’t work, and the whole point is to raise money for the kids.’’
Back this year is the infamous funky pink monkey, complete with lingerie and tie, kept in the care of last year’s highest bidder according to the pub’s Good Friday tradition and now returned for this year’s main fundraising auction.
The day’s events include a trash and treasure sale, fundraising auction and raffles, with face painting and balloons for the kids, and live entertainment throughout the day.
This year Travis is hoping business owners will again hop on board and generously support the fundraiser by donating items for auction.
‘‘It’s been ongoing for a few years now and each year it gets bigger, so we’re going for another record,’’ Travis said.
Last year, the Union Hotel raised more than $6800 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal with Travis and Carl hoping to beat that figure this year.
Anyone interested in donating goods for auction or money to the appeal, their services or time for the day should contact Lyn Edwards on 5433
