Heathcote is gearing up for a busy festival weekend as district accommodation providers report a surge in bookings.
Heathcote Winegrowers Association president Phil Meehan said the 2013 Heathcote Wine and Food Festival shaped up to be a great success.
‘‘There is no doubt that the annual wine and food festival is the biggest event for Heathcote each year; all accommodation within the region is fully booked out and online ticket sales are well up on last year,” he said
‘‘Heathcote has developed a firm reputation not only of being a premier wine producing region, but also of being one of the most friendly and approachable wine destinations that exists.’’
Heathcote Tourism and Development president Wayne McKay said he welcomed the 12th wine and food festival.
‘‘Local traders also embrace the opportunities it provides,’’ he said.
‘‘We see an influx into the area with a carry-on effect to local businesses.’’
Other events happening over the weekend include the Heathcote 9 x 5 art exhibition, a dolls house display at the Gaggle of Geese and a fete at St John’s Anglican church.
The monthly Bush Market at Barrack Reserve will run on Saturday morning.
