The Finley Community Tractor Pull Committee is celebrating its wildly successful event held on Saturday night, with up to 1400 people flocking to the Finley Showgrounds.

This year’s tractor pull benefited from ‘‘perfect’’ weather, and included the new lawn mower racing event along with Round One of the NSW Modified Tractor Pull Challenge.

Committee president Russell Anderson said he would have considered anything over 1000 people as a good result.

‘‘We got 800 (people) last year after the rain,’’ he said.

‘‘I just think everything worked out - good weather, no rain in the morning,’’ he said.

‘‘It ran very smoothly throughout the night, it just ran a little bit late.’’

Mr Anderson said the lawn mowers raced on a small track, and also on the main track after the tractors were done.

Committee treasurer Colleen Squires said the crowd was ‘‘blown away’’.

‘‘They (the lawn mowers) were just spectacular. They go so fast. Everybody that was there was just blown away.’’

During the night, Finley man Jack Gray won a ride in ‘Dirty Deeds’, which competed in the 2WD Truck Class.

Ms Squires said it was a ‘‘perfect day’’.

‘‘The track was set up beautifully and the hills were all lush and green.

‘‘We couldn’t have had a better day and been better prepared.

‘‘This committee’s worked together for three years now and I think we’re just going from strength to strength.

‘‘There were more tractors than last year and there were quite a few new tractors.’’

The winners of Saturday night’s event will receive points towards the Australian championships, to be held at Quambatook on Easter Saturday.

Ms Squires thanked service clubs and sponsors for their support.
