Tocumwal Race Club has officially been named among one of the best race clubs in NSW.By Hannah Nichols
The club is a top four finalist in the prestigious Outstanding NSW Community Race Club of the Year award.
Committee representative Denis Glanville said the club was ‘‘thrilled’’ to have received such an honour, and to even be nominated.
He said to make it to the final four in the award category was a tremendous achievement, saying it was ‘‘very significant’’.
The win comes hot on the heels of the club winning the Berrigan Shire Tourism Event of the Year in April.
Mr Glanville said the nomination was ‘‘a lovely follow-on’’ from the Berrigan Shire Business and Environment Awards win.
‘‘The (outstanding club) award and the nomination are all about the prestige, it is a highly sought after award,’’ Mr Glanville said.
‘‘It is a significant recognition as Tocumwal Race Club function without any council support and is a self sufficient race club.’’
Club president Murray Haynes said the club will not have to wait too long to find out the result of the award judging.
‘‘The winner will be announced on October 4, at a gala at the Four Seasons (in Sydney).
‘‘We knew we had been nominated and we are now down to the final four.
‘‘We are very pleased to be nominated for Outstanding NSW Community Race Club.’’
Mr Haynes said the club’s success so far in the awards is a testament to the club’s ‘‘general improvements of amenities and increased patronage’’.
Mr Haynes will attend the gala night, along with other members of the race club.
A total of 13 awards will be handed out over the course of the evening which recognises the accomplishments of industry figures throughout country and provincial NSW.
