The Tocumwal Golf Club presented a total of $16,500 to local organisations to assist in a range of special projects after its recent annual Fisher and Paykel Golf Day.
Red Gillespie of Tocumwal Public School said their $5500 would go towards buying new books for the library, as well as ‘‘home readers’’ for the students.
The school is also trying to raise money for a new sun shade for the playground, she said.
‘‘We’re pretty lucky to have the Golf Club and all the sponsors,’’ Ms Gillespie said.
‘‘We would also like to thank Jacqui Brown, who has been a wonderful help.’’
Sacred Heart Primary School Tocumwal were also extremely grateful for the fundraising efforts.
‘‘It is a fantastic event,’’ Sacred Heart parent / helper Delma Sanderson said.
Delma and Sharon Bourne collected the cheque on behalf of the school alongside principal Pat Boake.
‘‘Events such as the Fisher and Paykel Golf Day make us aware of our whole community,’’ Delma said.
‘‘The golf day has brought a wider spectrum to Tocumwal, such as family and friends from as far as Melbourne, for the last 10 years, who are always happy to support the schools and the community.
‘‘It makes us feel good as fundraisers that we don’t have to impact too much on the local community over the year.
‘‘The event allows a wider amount of people and larger businesses to help us raise the money.
‘‘The event was good all round.
‘‘I hope we can (help) make it even bigger and better for many years to come.’’
Delma said due to community efforts like the Golf Club’s charity day Sacred Heart Primary School has the best possible technology.
‘‘We have Smartboards, new computers, iPads and iPods, which is fantastic, especially considering the small number of pupils.
‘‘You could not get a better education in the city,’’ she said.
Colin Jones from Tocumwal Men’s Shed was also extremely appreciative of the $5,500 donation to his organisation.
‘‘We’re really thrilled to get it,’’ he said.
‘‘The money will go towards buying new equipment and tools for the Men’s Shed, including a wood lathe, a new welder and a buzzer.
‘‘We are only too pleased to be associated with the Golf Club as well as Fisher and Paykel,’’ Mr Jones said.
Tocumwal Golf Club CEO Steve Williams helped present the cheques at a recent presentation ceremony with representatives from the three recipients.
