Berrigan suffered a crushing three-wicket defeat at the hands of Tocumwal in the Murray Valley Cricket Association’s Premier Division at the weekend.

After winning the toss, Tocumwal sent Berrigan into bat.

The Saints lost wickets frequently and at 5/77 looked to be in big trouble, however, the tail end fought hard and managed to notch up a defendable 189.

Joe Karakai batted well and was the last man out. He made 48 runs, including seven fours.

Josh Bozzola (17) was able to put on 42 runs with Karakai for the eighth wicket, while Tocumwal helped Berrigan’s score along by bowling 58 extras.

The game was in the balance when the third wicket fell for 65 in Tocumwal’s run chase, but a great 88-run partnership between Dale Chandler (68) and Nathan Owens (42) put Tocumwal in the perfect position.

Some late wickets made the game look close but Tocumwal passed the score in the 29th over.

Josh Bozzola was the pick of the Berrigan bowlers, taking 5-48 from eight overs.

Berrigan will play Finley on Saturday at Berrigan with an early start of 9.30am.

Berrigan’s Division Two side had a great win over Tocumwal at Berrigan on Saturday.

Tocumwal won the toss and batted first but they were all out in the 40th over for 112.

Craig Thornton was the best of the bowlers taking 3-24 from his eight overs.

Skipper Graeme Parr took two wickets, while Phillip Purtell, John Bainbridge and Connor Thornton all snared one each.

Craig Thornton (5) was then able to bat for the first time with his son Connor (19) as they both opened the innings.

At 2/22 John Bainbridge joined Connor Thornton for a 66 run partnership.

Bainbridge played a fantastic innings, hitting eight fours and two sixes in his score of 67.

Neil Graham (9 n.o.) and James Waugh (1) were able to get the Saints over the line in the 20th over.

The Saints play Barooga under lights at Barooga on Friday night.
