Finley’s Oratile Nyathi is now officially an Australian citizen.By Hannah Nichols
Oratile, who is commonly referred to as Tilly, was officially recognised as an Australian Citizen in a special citizenship ceremony held last Wednesday.
Berrigan Shire Mayor Bernard Curtin welcomed Miss Nyathi and her mother to the ceremony held in Council Chambers.
Tilly is a year 12 Student at Finley High School.
Originally from Zimbabwe, it was Tilly’s mother who first made the move to Australia, and Finley.
Tilly then made the trip followed soon after by her father.
‘‘I grew up with my mum, who is a nurse, my dad who is a teacher and my brother who is at university.
‘‘I finished primary school in 2007 in Zimbabwe, after which I followed my mum to Australia after she got a job at Finley Regional Care.
‘‘I started school at the finish of the year in 2008.
‘‘My dad followed us here about a year later.’’
Miss Nyathi also works at Finley IGA, and said she has big plans for her future.
‘‘I am thinking about doing physiotherapy or nutrition at university,’’ she said.
