Mayor John Bruce said council staff will need to conduct an audit of the shire’s roads, and he does not yet know how many trees will be removed.
He expects the implementation to take months, or years.
The policy was on public display before it was passed, with no submissions made.
‘‘We will probably get public comment when we start to push trees over. But we’re just going to have to accept that,’’ he said.
The mayor said the changes have been implemented state-wide.
‘‘It’s not a reaction to a large number of single vehicle accidents where they run into trees,’’ he said.
