Another $1000 has been donated to the Finley Apex Sports and Community Centre by Finley Primary School.
Finley Public School has raised $1000 for the Finley Apex Sports and Community Centre project.
The school’s leadership group, under the guidance of stage three teacher Bronwyn Taylor, organised two fundraising activities to raise the money.
In term two the students hosted a footy colours day at the school.
Students donated a gold coin for the privilege of dressing in their favourite team’s colours.
Paired with a cake stall, the school raised $400 that day.
Ms Taylor said the rest of the money was raised as part of a school fundraiser at the Finley Show.
‘‘We had a guess the weight of the steer competition, which was $5 a guess.
‘‘The winner got a half steer donated by Tracey and Bart Doohan and second prize was a whole lamb from the Bramley family.
‘‘Third prize through to fifth were hampers of dairy produce.’’
Ms Taylor said the school wanted to do what it could to assist in the worthwhile project.
‘‘We thought it was a great community facility, which most students would use.’’
Finley Apex Sports and Community Centre committee chair Ashley Haynes said it was a fantastic effort from the school.
‘‘It was a fantastic imitative from a young group who just wanted to be involved in something positive,’’ he said.
‘‘The tenders closed last week and we hope (Berrigan Shire) council has a decision on that soon. We won’t know exactly how much we will need to raise until that is finalised.’’
The $1.6 million Finley Apex Community and Sport Complex project will see the Finley Recreation Reserve redeveloped.
Berrigan Shire Council’s preferred plans for the complex include a social hall, changerooms for home and visiting sporting teams, recreation hall, committee room, designated entry with reception area, umpires room, portable stage area and an upper floor for time-keeping and judges’ box.
