Get your bait and tackle ready and head to the Jerilderie Sports Club this Sunday for the Jerilderie Fishing Club’s junior competition.
Jerilderie Fishing Club member Jamie Pitt said this year’s event would be the second time the club has hosted the competition.
‘‘We are trying to get more kids involved in fishing,’’ Mr Pitt said.
‘‘It (the competition) is something to get them more involved in the club and also in the catch release program.’’
Fishing Club president Andrew Bell said last year’s event attracted more than 20 young anglers.
‘‘The kids had a ball.
‘‘They caught between 50 and 60 carp and three native fish on the day.
‘‘The day is all about encouraging the kids to get outside and have a good day.’’
Mr Bell said the junior competition is free for participants aged under 17.
The competition will run from 10am to 1pm and will include a casting competition and a few other special events.
‘‘There will be a free lunch and the day will finish up at about 3pm.’’
Mr Bell and Mr Pitt said they both ‘‘encourage anyone to come along’’.
‘‘Bring your own tackle and bait and head along,’’ Mr Bell said.
‘‘Bring the family, kids must be accompanied by an adult.’’
