The 11 year-old St Joseph’s student has been selected in the McKillop Girls Cricket side.
She was the only ‘‘country’’ girl selected in the 12-member team following a selection game in Wagga.
‘‘They asked for two batters and for six bowlers,’’ said Mardie, who tried out for both key cricketing disciplines.
‘‘I was asked to bowl four times and bat twice,’’ she said.
The Year 6 student said she loves playing cricket and that it was her family that got her involved.
‘‘I started playing because my brother and dad would have a hit in the back yard.
‘‘I’ve been playing since I was in Year 3.
‘‘I play on Saturday in Jerilderie – last season I played under 12s and under 14s. This year I’ll play under 14s.’’
Mardie will now travel to Nowra for a week of cricket, representing the McKillop diocese.
‘‘We play a four-hour game in the morning and a four-hour game in the afternoon.
‘‘And the games are played from Monday to Thursday.’’
The side will train on October 20 before the week long-competition gets under way on October 21.
Mardie, who describes herself as a ‘‘pace bowler and a mid-range bat’’, is also a member of the Jerilderie Netball Club and last year also played in the fourths football side.
