Jerilderie has qualified for the Deniliquin District Cricket Association A grade finals series after finishing the home and away season in fourth place.

The final regular season round was played on Saturday in Deniliquin, with Jerilderie comprehensively beaten by minor premier RSL/West.

The Demons now face a replay this weekend against the Cannons, who are captained by former Barooga premiership batsman Ranji Oliver.

Despite heading into the game without several key players, RSL/West got up by 92 runs against Jerilderie. The match was played over Saturday and Sunday.

Scott Checkley belted 72 runs before taking 3-21 with the ball to complete a fine double for RSL/West.

Batting first, the Cannons made 230 with young guns Oliver Draffin (52) and Brenton Loudon (30) ably supporting Checkley.

Demons bowler Blair Henery finished with 4-41 while skipper Lachlan Taylor-Nugent, spinner Alister Wells and Troy Hamilton all bagged two wickets apiece.

Sunday’s action saw Jerilderie struggling in reply at 3/28 after 11 overs with Checkley claiming the first three victims.

The RSL/West attack, which included some economic bowling from skipper Tim Hillier and Loudon, was spearheaded by Pitts (2-50), spinner Scott Howard (2-21) and Checkley.

Jerilderie batsmen Hamilton (39) and Wells (24) offered some grunt for the visitors.

The Demons will have another chance to knock over the Cannons when they do battle in this weekend’s semi-final. It will be played at Deniliquin’s Memorial Park from 1pm on Saturday with the winner advancing to the grand final.

Hay host Juniors in the other semi-final.
