It was a night for showgirls, past and present, at the Finley RS Club on Saturday evening.By Hannah Nichols
Thirteen former Finley showgirls gathered alongside the 2013 contestants at the Finley Showgirl Reunion, which was held as part of the 100 years since the first Finley Show celebrations.
The reunion attracted close to 80 people, including Finley’s first ever showgirl, Cynthia Osborn (nee Nixon) who took the title in 1959.
The 2013 Finley Showgirl competition was held during the day with the winner announced at the formal dinner that evening.
Claire McNamara, 21, was awarded the prestigious title with Liana Prentice, 17, named runner-up.
Miss McNamara will now represent the Finley region in the zone showgirl finals next year.
She won from a field of six beautifully presented and well spoken young ladies — Charlotte Close, Elizabeth Montgomery, Tarsha Mula, Liana Prentice and Hannah Tyrell.
All six young ladies were introduced to the crowd and then quizzed by competition coordinator Sasha Congram.
Contestants were asked to speak about their hobbies and interests, and what they hoped to do after they have finished their studies.
The judges were Yvette McKenzie, Clare McDonald and Ray Eldridge, who all had nothing but praise for contestants.
Along with the winning showgirl announcement, Wilfred Lowrie was named as the 2013 Show Personality.
Mr Lowrie has been involved with the Finley Show for many years and will be a great ambassador for the show society.
