Finley Farmers' Market a winner

Members of the Finley Farmers’ Market (FFM) committee had a chance to chat with both stallholders and market patrons at the recent lake-side event.

Members of the Finley Farmers’ Market (FFM) committee had a chance to chat with both stallholders and market patrons at the recent lake-side event.

The general consensus seems to be that, when it comes to market atmosphere and location, Finley seems to have it just right!

The last market, on February 4, included members of the community who sold second hand books.

According to one book seller, ‘‘it was a great opportunity to de-clutter the bookshelf and was well worth the effort’’.

Later in the morning, Jessica Casanova (formerly Jessica Taylor) came to serenade the crowd. She chose a couple of love songs and captivated the crowd with her beautiful voice.

She even brought along her piano and played as she sang.

Jessica said it was a great way to become accustomed to singing in front of a crowd.

Though she was a little nervous at first, she found that the good wishes of those who listened helped her to relax and enjoy the experience.

Jessica was so taken with the idea of singing at the market that she promised a comeback performance in a couple of months.

Hopefully she will sing some of her own songs this time as well.

Singing at the next market will be Catherine and Toody — better known as Catherine McNamara and Veronica Braybon.

They sang at the first market back in September and the crowd loved them.

The Finley Farmer’s Market is always on the lookout for ‘‘locals’’ who would like to perform.

If you are interested, just contact the coordinator at finleyfarmersmarket@finley.org.au

The market, in conjunction with Berrigan Shire Youth Development Committee, is still looking for entrants in the ‘‘Kids Who Cook’’ competition.

There will be two sections — 10-12 years and 13-16.

Applications will be taken for this competition until Wednesday, February 23.

If you are interested and would like more information, email the market coordinator or ring 0466966150.

Stallholders away on holidays for the last market will be back in time for the March market.

The theme for this market is ‘Health and Lifestyle’ and there are a few surprises in store for those who come along.

If you were at the last market and did not make the connection regarding the hearts decorating some of the stalls, they were a reminder that yesterday was Valentine’s Day!
