Ray and Kay Semmens proudly show off their winning Christmas light and garden display, including their famous nativty scene.
Held exactly a week before Christmas Day, the evening was a non-stop thrill ride with shopping specials, Bonanza winners – including main prize winner Danielle Morgan – and the announcement of Christmas lights winners.
Coordinated by the Finley Chamber of Commerce and Industry, secretary Sue Arnold said the night was a huge success.
She said despite the sweltering heat, more than 350 residents made their way to the CBD and the Finley Railway Park for a night of Christmas cheer.
‘‘It was a fantastic night for Finley,’’ Mrs Arnold said.
‘‘It was great to see all ages there, and in particular the children and young families who enjoyed the night.
‘‘Whether you came for the music, lighting awards, entertainment, the food, the shopping bonanza or just to socialise, it was fantastic.’’
Ms Arnold said from all accounts ‘‘everyone had a good time and enjoyed the new venue’’.
Combining with the Xmas Xtravaganza was a late night shopping event – the first time the two have been joined together.
‘‘We are happy with the result for the first attempt,’’ Ms Arnold said.
‘‘The businesses that stayed open seemed pleased with the response they received.’’
Ms Arnold said next year Chamber is looking to really boost the late night shopping aspect.
‘‘We hope next year there will be a lot more participating businesses.’’
Chamber would like to offer its thanks to all those who participated in the night and made it such a fantastic evening, including the sponsors.
Special thanks must go to the Finley Band for their Main St entertainment from 6pm to 7pm as well as Santa and his elves Tinsel (Emma) and Hollie (Holly) who made the special stopover in Finley.
‘‘We look forward to seeing you all at the Xmas Xtravaganza again next year,’’ Mrs Arnold said.
