Southern 80 water skier airlifted to hospital

A man was airlifted to hospital this afternoon after taking part in the Southern 80 ski race Bakers' Blitz today.

A Southern 80 water skier from team Blazen has been airlifted to Royal Melbourne hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The Riverine Herald has confirmed the name of the skier is Grant Turner.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the skier, 32, suffered head injuries and possibly spinal injuries when he came off his skis about 4.15pm this afternoon while competing in the Bakers’ Blitz.

The spokesperson said the incident occurred about 4km west of Echuca-Moama.

The Southern 80 Twitter account reported the man was conscious when being treated and that all other members of the team were okay.

Earlier, a female skier was taken to Echuca hospital with a leg injury.

The AV spokesperson could not confirm the woman’s age or extent of the injury.

The incident occurred about noon.
