People are being urged not to call 000 unless they see a fire, after emergency services received several reports of smoke in the district on Sunday.
Residents could smell smoke in Echuca-Moama, Bunnaloo and even as far as Deniliquin.
CFA District 20 operations officer John Cutting said the smoke was from the fires in Victoria’s south, particularly in Kilmore.
‘‘We had a number of call-outs which turned out to be false alarms,’’ Mr Cutting said.
‘‘If you can smell smoke, ring the Victorian Bushfire Information Line (1800 240 667) or go onto the CFA app.
‘‘Don’t ring 000 unless you can see fire.’’
