Progress on funds for second bridge

The NSW Government has taken another step forward in its commitment to building a second Murray River crossing at Echuca-Moama.

More funding has been secured for the Echuca-Moama bridge.

The NSW Government has taken another step forward in its commitment to building a second Murray River crossing at Echuca-Moama.

It has announced an $800,000 allocation to cover the cost of designing and planning the approach to the crossing once the Victorian Government settles on its route.

The allocation, as part of the NSW Government’s Bridges for the Bush program, follows a surprise $60 million announcement, to cover its construction costs, in October 2012.

To date, the Victorian Government has yet to announce a pricetag for the three route options left on the table, nor has it allocated funds to continue with design and planning, despite making promises.

Member for Rodney Paul Weller said he could not offer a timeline for a Victorian Government announcement.

‘‘Obviously I would like to see it sooner rather than later,’’ he said.

‘‘We have to have a few things in line before we make an announcement.’’
