Murray Shire Council’s decision not to provide financial support for the Southern 80 still stands, despite backlash from organisers.

At their November meeting, councillors voted against providing $4527.27 to the Southern 80.

Instead, they chose to continue their in-kind support for the event.

After expressing disappointment and labelling the decision as ‘‘deplorable’’ , the Moama Water Sports Club asked council provide details about what the in-kind support entails.

Technical services director Leigh Robins addressed the council meeting yesterday.

The in-kind support totals around $2000, with tips fees to be waived (about $600), traffic control to be provided at Five Mile Reserve ($1320) and bins provided at the Kerrabee Soundshell for Friday’s breakfast with the stars event ($75).
