Maiden Smith Drive request to be voted on

First Murray Shire meeting since resignations.

Murray Shire Council will meet at 1pm today in Moama for its planning and development committee meeting.

It will be the first meeting since Sue Mulcahy and Brian Sharp’s unexpected resignations late last month.

Councillors will nominate for positions Mrs Mulcahy and Mr Sharp held on various committees.

A by-election is expected in May, but committee positions will be re-allocated in the interim.

Councillors will vote on whether to approve a request for Maiden Smith Drive property owners to purchase part of a lot classified as public reserve.

The council owns the land, located along the bank of the river.

Council staff have recommended council prepare a planning proposal to re-classify the lot. Should the land be re-classified, it is to be sold as a single allotment.

If sold, the land would have restrictions imposed to prevent further subdivision.

Councillors will vote on whether to contribute funding towards a workforce plan for Echuca-Moama.

Committee for Echuca-Moama initiated the Workforce Plan which includes strategies to bridge the gap between the current and future workforce.

Council staff have recommended council contribute $3000.
