Passers-by helped to control a grassfire on Cornelia Creek Rd on Friday afternoon.
The fire was spotted by a woman driving home shortly before 3pm.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said she saw a small fire in the table drain along the road.
‘‘Then the wind changed and suddenly it took off,’’ she said.
‘‘I drove down the driveway of the house and started knocking on the door to let the residents know, but no-one was at home.’’
The woman quickly grabbed a garden hose and did her best to dampen the lawn and gardens around the home.
She also called triple 0.
Two other people passing by, one in a tractor, stopped to assist her before fire crews arrived on scene.
The paddock was burnt but the house was saved.
The home owner, who also did not want to be named, arrived home a short time later.
‘‘The fire was already out,’’ he said. ‘‘The neighbouring paddock is quite badly burnt. I’m very happy there were people who were willing to stop and help.’’
Five trucks attended the blaze, which was brought under control around 3.30pm.
