Cohuna and Kerang hospitals have refused proposals from St John of God Pathology informing them they will ‘strongly resist change’ and expect the organisation to honour their contract.

Hospital boards met to discuss St John of God Pathology's proposed  'sustainable' service delivery model that would see the closure of the Kerang pathology laboratory.

But Cohuna District Hospital chief executive William Hall said the pathology views and proposal had been rejected.

‘‘We’ve basically told them they need to honour their contract and that local hospitals won’t take these kind of tactics.

‘‘We will strongly resist any change. They did try to explain extensively their view but, their view and proposal has been rejected,’’ he said.

St John of God Pathology has another 18 months left on its contract and district hospitals will evaluate their options as more information becomes available.
