Echuca elder Aunty Melva Johnson was one of the first 20 inductees to the Victorian Indigenous Honour Roll, announced by Premier Ted Baillieu and Aboriginal Affairs Minister Jeanette Powell on Friday night.

Aunty Melva said she got ‘a real buzz’ from being recognised alongside leaders like Sir Doug Nicholls and Geraldine Briggs.

The inaugural inductees were nominated by people across Victoria and selected with the assistance of an advisory panel made up of Indigenous people from a range of backgrounds.
