Echuca Fire Brigade members were left frustrated by the number of people lighting fires on a day of total fire ban.

Brigade members were kept busy on Saturday, with four call-outs, three for campfires, as well as a crew on standby to attend the Pental Island fire near Swan Hill.

About half a hectare was burnt on Echuca-Nanneella Rd, Echuca, about 2.20pm.

It is believed the fire was started from sparks from an angle grinder, which was being used in a shed with the door open.

Echuca and Bamawm Extension members were called to a campfire on Braund Rd, Echuca, about 8.20pm Saturday.

While attending the fire, a second campfire was also detected and put out.

Another campfire on Scenic Drive was put out before crews arrived about 9.20pm Saturday.

Echuca police also attended the fires and will investigate the campfires and grassfire.

People found to be lighting fires on a day of total fire ban can be prosecuted under the CFA Act.

Crews attended a fire at a motel on the Northern Hwy on Saturday about 8.40pm.

It appears someone may have tossed a cigarette butt onto bush and bark, which caught fire.

Echuca and Echuca Village were called to a fire on Christie’s Beach about 1.30pm yesterday.

Moama fire brigade members were called to a stump fire yesterday.

The call came in about 11am for a burning stump near the Moama slipway.
